Its purpose is to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue. |

These meetings explain how to participate in IP address management policy-making and discuss technical topics such as IP address space management and root server operations.

RIPE Cooperation Working Group |

During 2008, the RIPE Cooperation Working Group emerged from the RIPE Enhanced Cooperation Task Force. The purpose of the working group is to provide a forum for discussing cooperation between the private and public sectors on Internet related matters.

RIPE NCC Attends OECD Ministerial Meeting |

In June 2008, the RIPE NCC, together with industry partners, took part in ministerial discussions on the future of the Internet in a global economy.

RIPE Enhanced Co-operation Task Force |

The RIPE Task Force
on Enhanced Cooperation was formed at RIPE
54 in May 2007 to advise on issues of enhanced cooperation
between the RIPE community and relevant stakeholders,
particularly governments and regulators. |

RIPE NCC Awarded Special Status from United Nations |
| |
In 2007, the RIPE NCC was awarded Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. With this consultative status, the RIPE NCC can designate official representatives to help advise the United Nations on issues related to Internet number resource management and the technical coordination of the Internet. |

The RIPE NCC actively participated in the WSIS process and continues, along with its fellow Regional Internet Registries RIRs as part of the Number Resource Organization, to contribute to each IGF meeting. |

Summit on the Information Society |
| |
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was held in two phases.
The first phase took place in Geneva hosted by the Government of Switzerland
from 10-12 December 2003, and the second phase took place in Tunis hosted
by the Government of Tunisia, from 16-18 November 2005.

The RIPE NCC participated in the WSIS on behalf of the RIPE NCC members and the Internet community as a whole. As a result of its activities in the WSIS, the RIPE NCC was nominated for an Internet Hero Award. |
